Badlands - A Blossom Fell

Here, the configuration of projected light into darkness in the scene's establishing shot (placed at the end), the nondiegetic presences of the absent (and older) Holly as narrator and Nat King Cole, and the entropic aspect of the action all suggest a particular paradigm of cinema: the mechanical apparatus of shooting and projection with its play of presence and absence, its recalling the presentness of the past.
