Imagem
Ainda não sei se de fato ela morreu. Informações ainda são desencontradas. Alguns sites afirmam que foi uma notícia plantada no twitter.   Lauren Bacall , the sultry blonde siren who became an overnight star via a memorable film debut at age 19 opposite Humphrey Bogart in Howard Hawks’ “To Have and Have Not,” died Tuesday of a suspected stroke at her home in the Dakota in Manhattan. She was 89. The Bogart estate tweeted the news Tuesday evening. Variety’s review of the 1944 film described her as “a young lady of presence,” and audiences immediately embraced her gravel-voiced and sultry persona. The voice was said to have come from a year shouting into a canyon. Regardless, “the Look,” her slinky, pouty-lipped head-lowered stare, influenced a generation of actresses. After a 50-year career, she received her first Oscar nomination for supporting actress for her role as Barbra Streisand’s mother in 1997’s “The Mirror Has Two Faces.” Though considered a shoo-in, she didn’t

Clint Eastwood: Cowboy Led ‘Jersey Boys’ Down a New Trail

In 1962, the same year that a quartet of working-class New Jersey youths called the Four Seasons shot to the top of the pop charts with the irresistible doo-wop single “Sherry,” a solo artist from the West Coast made a less auspicious chart appearance with an earnest cowboy ballad inspired by his character on a popular TV Western. Entitled “Rowdy,” the song featured its gravelly voiced performer lamenting life on the open range, set to a gentle, galloping tempo. That singer was Clint Eastwood . SEE MORE: From the June 10, 2014 issue of Variety Surely, few listening to the radio back then would have imagined that, 50-odd years later, the Four Seasons’ pint-sized frontman, Frankie Valli, would still be selling out arenas with his vibrating falsetto. Fewer still would have wagered that Eastwood, then in his fourth season as Rowdy Yates on CBS’ “Rawhide,” would not only go on to become one of Hollywood’s most iconic leading men, but one of its most lauded director- producer

Beverly Hills Hotel Loses Oscar Party, More Over Controversy

Imagem
The venerable Beverly Hills Hotel is beginning to feel the impact of the industry’s outrage over the anti-LGBT and anti-female laws enacted in Brunei, the home country of hotel owner Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. The tally of events exiting the hotel include the glitzy Night Before fundraiser that brings the A-list out to support the Motion Picture Television Fund on the night before the Oscars. “Representatives of MPTF met with the leadership of the Dorchester Collection and executives from the Beverly Hills Hotel to convey our deep concern about the recent enactment of laws in Brunei that call for violent punishment, including amputation and death by stoning, against those engaging in same-sex activity and extramarital sexual relations, and those committing adultery,” MPTF chairman Bob Pisano, vice chairman Mark Fleischer and prexy-CEO Bob Beitcher said in a joint statement. “We expressed very clearly that we cannot condone or tolerate these harsh and repressive la

Tilda Swinton on Why She Doesn't Consider Herself an Actor

Imagem
In  Wes Anderson ’s latest fairy tale, “ The Grand Budapest Hotel ,” the 53-year-old Scottish actress is virtually unrecognizable under droopy skin and wrinkles as octogenarian Madame D. In the just-released drama “Only Lovers Left Alive,” directed by Jim Jarmusch, she portrays Eve, a chic-looking (if 3,000-year-old) vampire. And in June, she’ll be seen Stateside in Bong Joon-ho’s futuristic “Snowpiercer” as a terrifying political leader whose inspiration draws from equal parts Kim Jong-un and Marilyn Manson. Her versatility as an artist makes her impossible to classify. Along with a prolific screen career highlighted by an Oscar win in 2008 for her portrayal of an unraveling lawyer in “Michael Clayton,” Swinton also performs spoken-word pieces, has founded a  film festival  (Scotland’s Ballerina Ballroom Cinema of Dreams in 2008), and inspired a collection from Chanel. Her best-known work might be “The Maybe,” a  live performance -art piece in which she sleeps inside a glass bo
